On 15th March 2015, The Indian Express published an article about Goa dropping Gandhi Jayanti from the list of its official holidays.

BJP took a controversial step in Goa by removing Gandhi Jayanti from the list of commercial and industrial holidays for this year. Even the senior officials of BJP were shocked to hear this decision. Goa’s BJP president Michael Lobo was highly disappointed by this decision and told that he will take up this issue with Chief Minister. BJP spokesperson were not ready to comment on the government’s decision. Congress slammed BJP for this move as a step towards communal politics.

Gandhiji is widely known as Father of Nation and in respect to his contribution towards India’s independence, his birthday was declared as a national holiday. Exclusively removing Gandhi Jayanti from the list of holidays of Goa without any reason shows disrespect to a person of national importance.
