Internet facilities are now available to almost every middle class families in India and where it was a luxury almost a decade ago. Thanks to the IT boom and following the reduction in charges of the internet services. now most of the people have basic access to world wide web at their homes and mobile phones. A school going child now has an email id of his own, a Facebook account , a twitter account and may be some more of social media accounts. Everybody loves to post status messages in their accounts, display personal pictures, informations and other details to the world. By doing this they may unknowingly becoming vulnerable to the outside hackers who may want some critical information to misuse them.
Report has shown that Indians overuse and are overdependent on social media. Most of the cyber crimes happening in the country are due to the social media.The findings of the Internet Security Threat Report 2015 shows that encryption,used for securing important data, is used to keep people’s personal data as hostage. Now more vital personal data are available to the outside hackers through online apps, social media and other online data postings. India is 3rd in list countries from where cyber attacks have originated.
Owing to this issue, we all should take steps so that cyber crimes are reduced. We should not rely much on the online data. We should stop posting personal data on social networks. We should use strong passwords, avoid password sharing at all costs and learn more about cyber threats. We should not click malicious links and be very careful during online monetary transactions. Cyber crime is definitely a growing problem which needs to be stopped at any cost.
