Tata Elxsi would be first in the country to test the driverless cars on Indian roads. Tata Elxsi, a design firm of the Tata Group is presently seeking permission from the authorities in Bengaluru to test the driverless vehicles. Tata Elxsi won’t be designing the car from scratch rather it has fitted two sedans with a wide range of sensors and cameras. It has been working on autonomous technology for quite a long and plans to come up with a car which successfully integrates different sensors, cameras and communicates freely.
In my opinion, Indian roads which are known for their rowdy pedestrians and drivers, where one can find everything from slow moving bullock carts, trucks and tractors to animals like dogs and elephants, running a driverless car seems to be a far- fetched dream. Making the driverless car is one thing but making them run on Indian roads is entirely a different thing. Since there are already many issues with the driverless car, how this audacious step taken by Tata Elxsi will be fruitful is yet to been seen in the coming days.
