Dipa Karmakar, a 22 year old from Tripura, has created history by becoming the first Indian woman gymnast to qualify for Olympics,Rio. And also it’s been 52 years since an Indian gymnast took part in this sports extravaganza.
The youngster amassed 52.698 points in the Olympics qualifying event to secure her berth in Rio games to be held this August. In the recent past Dipa has got many accolades on her name, featuring in the finals of the World championships in November 2015 – to mention one.
With a population close to 1.2 Billion,it’s really unfortunate, we hardly find a few who can make it to the international arena. In a highly cricket dominant nation, she’s proved once again that there are lot many sports where we need to focus.
She stands as a true inspiration for the young Indians and lets hope that she gives us one more chance to be proud of her again by bagging a medal. She’s definitely a ray of hope for us in Olympics.
