India has world’s third largest army in the world. It has one of the best air force in the world. It has one of the best naval forces in the world.
India invests tons of money for buying new equipment and upgrading what they already have. India made deal with Russia, France, US and Israel for this. But question here is, are these steps are enough?
Let’s first talk about strength of our Army. We have total 24.75 lacs of active as well as reserve force which comes after US and China. We have around 900 to 1000 combat capable aircraft like Sukhoi, Mirage 2000, HAL Tejas. Indian air force has total around 2000 aircraft which is currently in service. Now let’s talk about Navy. Indian Navy has total 219 ships which are currently in service from which 2 are aircraft carriers, 10 destroyers, 14 frigates, a nuclear-powered attack submarine, 14 conventionally-powered attack submarines, 26 corvettes, 7 mine countermeasure vessels. Indian Army has Pinaka and BM-21 Multiple rocket launcher, Brahmos Stealth Cruise missile, Prithvi and Agni series ballistic missile system.
But in this era where technology is changing as fast as human thinking is this all are enough? The answer to this question is simply NO. As world is developing the up gradation to all this is also necessary. We cannot rally on stealth cruise missile if enemy has capacities to detecting it. We cannot rally on old Sukhoi-30 where other countries have tried to develop fifth generation combat aircraft.
We are trying to go into that direction but our speed is too slow. We are still 30 year behind from USA.
There is lots of reason behind this like our government and politics in defense and corruption. Even budget constrain is also one reason for that. Government have to make better policies for defense and speedup the process of modernizing the army.
There is no doubt that the process is already start. We are upgrading our aircraft and submarines. We are also buying the weapons and equipment which include aircraft deal between India and France. Even India is thinking to buy $7 billion worth of Russian weapons.
India is also developing the weapons by their own ranging from small pistol to large aircraft carrier-INS Vikrant.
As said earlier the process is already started But the main question here is that when we achieve the right pace of modernizing. Is this all are enough to tackle the problem of border conflicts and terrorism? or they are already way ahead of us?
