India has a population of 1.24 Billion. We are the 7th Largest country, 3rd largest Army and the largest Democracy of the World. But from what I’ve seen in TV series such as House MD, BBT they portray India as one big sewer.“What is your country’s opinion of India?”I came across this quora post and I saw 69 replies from various people acorss five continents. Each had their opinion some of which are given below
“in the modern reality of post-2008 crisis Greece, India is represented here by a growing contingent of its own people, immigrants and asylum seekers who try to find a better fortune in Europe. These people most of the time have to work clandestinely and do the hardest and lowest paid work” – Carl Logan, Greece
“My expectation is that India is much like America in that there is affluence and there is poverty. India is much more crowded than the U.S. but we have slums, and corruption and greed coexisting with the beauty of the land and the rich culture of its people.” – Rick Cornier, USA
“Attitude toward women: I noticed Indian men constantly staring at my wife, even though she was conservatively dressed. I wouldn’t recommend single women travel to India alone. Even at beaches women were swimming in full clothing – it still amazes me how different this is to Australia. I guess this won’t change until Indian men start treating women with more respect. The opinion of women in India is evident in this documentary, and is truly shocking”- Australian
“Most of Thai know about Bollywood but many people don’t like Bollywood movies and make fun with it when someone (like me) said that they like Indian movies. Well know super star of Bollywood in Thailand for people who never watched new Bollywood movies is Amithabh Bachchan but someone know Sharukh Khan. But after PK released many people know Aamir Khan and like him, someone want to watch more Bollywood movies.”- Thai Citizen
These opinions show one thing- that India is still not seen as a very powerful country by the common man there. We Indians know that India as not more a slum and we are much more than Bollywood. Together, we need to show it to the world that who we are. We are the next BIG country in the world.
