Shashank Manohar is appointed as new BCCI President. He will replace Jagmohan Dalmia who died last month. He was elected or this post in BCCI’s special general meeting in Mumbai. This is the second time Mr. Manohar has become president of BCCI. He previously held the post from 2008 to 2011. In 1996 he became president Vidarbha Cricket Association.
A BCCI by-election needs only one proposer from the zone which is electing the president and Manohar got proposed from all the six associations. Manohar’s name was additionally proposed by Sourav Ganguly from Bengal, Sourav Dasgupta from Tripura, Gautam Roy from Assam, Ashirbad Behera of Odisha and Sanjay Singh of Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA).
His appointment also means that N Srinivasan now has little chance of coming back into the BCCI fold till 2017 when the Shashank Manohar’s tenure ends.According to Sourav Ganguly the upcoming president of Bengal Cricket Association and CA supremo Ajay Shirke Manohar is the best suitable person for this post. According to Mr. Shirke all six East Zone units have proposed Mr. Manohar’s name. New President comes with lot of experience and integrity.
Newly-elected president Shashank Manohar vowed to clean the image of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after being chosen on Sunday to head the world’s richest cricket board for a second time.
While Interaction with media Mr. Manohar said, his first priority is to clean the image of the sport. According to him young faces in administration is always better as the new generation have new ideas while the older generation has fixed notions and they work accordingly. Development can take place only when new generation comes in.
