‘Hexa! Hexa!’ is running in every Indian ear as a ring bell ‘Dong- Dong’! As soon as the final whistle blew by referee Ranjit Bakshi , East Bengal FC(EB) won its second ‘Hexa’ Calcutta Football League(CFL) after 1970-1975. It became sweeter for the EB fans when Red and Gold Brigade beat arch rivals Mohun Bagan A.C. 4-0 at season’s first derby in Kolkata on Sunday.
More than 70,000 fans welcomed to the historic 311st meeting between two teams. With the temperature at a hot 37 and 70% humidity at kickoff, the packed stadium came alive when the teams took the neatly grass field.
Mariners open the game and it took East Bengals a couple of minutes to break the tie with Do Dong Hyum, the height scorer in the league adding another goal in his name. His left-footed free kick from 25 yards out sailed over the wall and hit the back of the net from outstretched hands of Bagan skipper Shilton Paul.

In the 38th minute, Do Dong scored his doubled, lead the defending champions 2-0. Mohammd Rafique kept his reputation in scoring in big matches intact as he headed from a Bikash Jairu cross to extend the lead for manager Bhattacharya’s outfit.

As Rahul Bheke headed in a fourth goal from a corner in added time bring the end of the humiliating afternoon for the Mariners. This wins arguably the best ever derbies win in the 90 year old history of the Calcutta Football League for East Bengal F.C. Within 311th head to head meet Red and Gold Brigade beats Mariners for 117th time, 49th time of CFL. From 1942 to till date ‘Tigers’ have won the highest division of the league system for 37th times in the history of CFL.

The Bagan fans had to leave the ground in terse for the performance performed by the Macha.

Thousands of East Bengal fans drove in celebration by lighting flaming torch the club emblem, Red & Gold  Holi colours, Hilsa fish and rowed ‘Hexa! Hexa!’ with joy and happiness.
