The Indian Express in its 5th April, 2015 edition reported that ace Indian shuttler ,Saina Nehwal lost her World No 1 spot after a defeat to Li Xuerui in the semifinals of the Malaysian Super Series Premier. The match went to the wire which the Chinese won 13-21, 21-17, 22-20.

This was Nehwal’s ninth defeat at the hands of Xuerrui in 11 meetings.Carolina Marin (currently No. 2) has also reached the finals.Although Nehwal took the first set 21-13, Xuerui  was by far  the better player on court and had the last laugh.

Though Nehwal’s stay at the top was short-lived ,her fans should be proud of the fact that she is the only player apart fom Xuerui to reach the no 1 spot in the last 28 months. In the future ,she will continue in her role of the stubborn chaser and  Xuerui must beware of this Indian legend.
