This is with respect to the video released by Vouge on March 29th 2015 under the campaign VogueEmpower which aims at women empowerment. This Video starres Deepika Padukone and 99 powerful women from the city of Mumbai like Zoya Akhtar, Nimrat Kaur, Adhuna Akhtar, Anaita Shroff Adajania and Sherry Shroff. This video has been directed by Homi Ajadania .
The women featured are selected from different walks of the life and voicing their choice for Equality be it social ,economical ,political and sexual .The video dares you to make your own choices. A film that tells to love yourself and not be afraid to be different. A film that tells you not give a point about what anyone thinks of you or the choices you make .It also says “You have to love yourself, your strengths ,weaknesses & flaws, before you can go out and stand for something”.
Though I liked the main essence of the video which aims at bringing women empowerment ,but the video probably missed the thin line between Freedom and Selfishness. Freedom is something where your privileges are protected along with people around you. Selfishness is something where your wishes are supreme and others’ privileges are violated.”To love someone temporarily” or “having sex outside marriage” is of course “Your Choice”!! But don’t brand it as a symbol of freedom and empowerment of women. Because in love or marriage, trust and emotion of another person is also involved. What you are preaching is a brand of “Being Selfish”, not of having Freedom. And what do you mean by “Your Baby”? Don’t you think that a woman also enjoys the motherhood? Stop hating men in the name of feminism. All men are not the same .
The video should have focused on women who are adding a value to the society where people and women can draw inspiration from them .
