On 26th March 2015, the Economic Times published that IIT Kharagpur is launching various courses for working professionals as well. These courses will be launched under the tutelage of international faculty. The International Summer and Winter Term (ISWT) will run each year during May-July and December, IIT Kharagpur officials said. Students registered for these courses will have the opportunity to obtain additional academic credits based on evaluation and grading process, they added.
On 3rd of April 2015, the India today.in published: “The Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Kharagpur will soon be starting with short-term courses, offered via video conference. Students of engineering colleges besides IIT Kharagpur can also avail these modular courses. IIT Kharagpur official said that the course, termed ‘Knowledge Dissemination Programme’, will begin April onwards. The course will be offered in diverse sections which will include Embedded System Design, Data Mining, Thermoelectricity, Hydrological Design and many more.
I believe this is a great initiative by IIT Kharagpur as this will give opportunity to the people who are not able to get admission into IIT’s and get a chance to learn different courses. This is a golden opportunity for working professionals who want to excel in their fields by learning more courses. This will increase the visibility of IIT Kharagpur as more and more people will start linking to IIT Kharagpur. In today’s era of E-learning it is very easy for building competencies using video conferencing without wasting time on travel and is cost effective option. This is the best option who doesn’t want to pursue complete engineering course want to excel in one specific field let say for an example data mining. She/he can get insight about data mining and can get the suitable profile by learning through this video conferencing medium. I hope other IIT’s will learn from IIT Kharagpur and launch their e-learning courses which will contribute in country’s development.
